Salary questions dominate every conversation we have with candidates considering Germany. The gross figures look excellent in rupee terms; the net figures after German tax and social contributions are still strong but lower than many expect. This guide sets out both, by role, for 2026.
The Floors
- Statutory minimum wage — €13.90 per hour, roughly €2,400 gross per month full-time
- Construction minimum wage — above the national floor, set by sector agreement
- Experience-based visa route floor — around €43,000 gross per year unless a collective agreement applies

- Forklift or reach-truck operator — €2,700 to €3,200

Shift, night, Sunday and holiday supplements add 10 to 25 percent in production, logistics and care.
From Gross to Net
A single worker in tax class I pays income tax plus roughly 20 percent in social contributions (pension, health, unemployment, long-term care). As a rule of thumb, net pay is about 60 to 68 percent of gross at these salary levels. A €3,000 gross salary leaves roughly €2,000 net; €3,800 gross leaves roughly €2,450.
What the Contributions Buy
Those deductions are not lost: they fund full health insurance, a state pension that accrues from day one, unemployment cover and long-term care insurance. Compare with the Gulf, where the gross figure is the net figure but nothing accrues.
Living Costs
Rent is the variable. Employer-arranged shared accommodation runs €300 to €500 per person; a private one-room flat €500 to €900 outside big cities and more in Munich, Frankfurt or Hamburg. Regional Differences
The same role pays more in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Hesse than in the eastern states, and collective agreements differ by region. A welder in Stuttgart may earn €400 more per month than one in Saxony — but rent is also higher. Compare net pay after housing, not gross alone.
Pay Rises and Progression
German collective agreements include annual increases and step progression with experience. Recognition of an Indian qualification, a German forklift or welding certificate, or promotion to shift lead each moves a worker up the grid. Over three years, most Indian workers we place see their gross salary rise by 10 to 20 percent without changing employer.

Every German contract must state gross salary, hours and the applicable collective agreement. Never accept a verbal figure.
