Filling Germany’s Empty Driver Seats

German road haulage is short of drivers by tens of thousands and the gap grows with every retirement. Hauliers, retail fleets and waste-management firms have turned to non-EU recruitment, and Indian heavy-vehicle drivers — used to long routes, demanding schedules and, often, Gulf fleet standards — are a proven source.

Because an Indian licence cannot be exchanged directly, we deploy drivers only with employers who put the licence-conversion and Code 95 plan, the salary during qualification and the solo-driving start date in writing. Drivers work as depot or yard operatives while they qualify, so they are productive from the first week.

Roles We Deploy

Long-Haul Truck Driver (CE)
Articulated, EU routes; 3+ years experience
Regional Distribution Driver (C)
Rigid trucks, multi-drop; A2 German preferred
Tanker / ADR Driver
Hazardous-goods experience; ADR certification after arrival
Refuse / Municipal Vehicle Driver
Fixed routes; strong retention
Bus & Coach Driver (D)
On request; B1 German for passenger roles

Why Hauliers Recruit Drivers From India

  • Large pool with 3–10 years of heavy-vehicle experience and verifiable licence histories
  • Gulf-experienced drivers already familiar with GPS dispatch, digital logs and strict safety regimes
  • English literacy for CMR documents and tachograph handling; A2 German pools maintained
  • Long-tenure orientation — drivers come for residence and family rights, not seasonal work
  • Written qualification plans mean no surprises about when a driver can drive solo

Recruitment, Visa and Qualification Path

1
Selection and screening

Licence verification, driving-record checks, video interview and, where possible, practical assessment on a heavy vehicle in India.

2
Visa on the experience-based route

Two-year qualification plus two years’ driving experience, salary under the applicable collective agreement, BA pre-approval and the accelerated procedure.

3
Arrival and licence conversion

Theory and practical tests for C/CE with your driving-school partner, plus the accelerated basic qualification for Code 95 — typically two to four months.

4
Solo driving and retention

Driver card, tachograph training and route induction; our Europe desk follows up through the first year.

Pay, Conditions & Timeline

Long-haul drivers under German collective agreements earn roughly €2,800–3,500 gross per month in 2026 plus allowances for nights away; regional distribution slightly less. During the qualification phase drivers are paid as depot operatives at collectively agreed rates.

Employer one-time investment: agency fee, translations, fast-track fee, travel, licence conversion (€1,500–3,000) and Code 95 (€2,000–3,500), usually structured against a service commitment. Six to nine months from requirement to solo driving is realistic.

Figures are indicative market ranges and not a quotation; the signed service agreement governs. See our Terms & Conditions.

Employer FAQs

Can Indian drivers use their Indian licence in Germany?

Only for six months and only privately. Professional driving requires a German C/CE licence obtained by passing the German theory and practical tests, plus the Code 95 qualification.

How long until a driver from India can drive solo?

Two to four months after arrival for licence conversion and Code 95, so six to nine months from the start of recruitment.

What German level do drivers need?

A2 is the practical minimum for loading-point communication; some employers with English-speaking dispatch accept A1 with a training plan.
